CLCV Education Fund conducts first-of-its-kind Asian American Poll

Report: Asian American Environmentalists: An Untapped Power for Change in California

Asian American Environmental Poll Report Cover

Asian Americans represent the fastest-growing ethnic group in California. Yet, they are an untapped and largely ignored constituency, one that we believe could provide the critical support needed to advance environmental reforms and programs.

The California League of Conservation Voters Education Fund’s recently completed research about the environmental views and attitudes of Asian Americans. The result of our year-long research is presented in the report: “Asian American Environmentalists: An Untapped Power for Change in California.”

This groundbreaking research delved deeply into Asian American voter opinions on the environment, with interviews conducted in four different languages: English, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. This research shows that Asian Americans are overwhelmingly supportive of protecting our environment and are willing to take action to protect it.

As a result, CLCV Ed Fund strongly recommends that those who are actively working to protect the environment — NGOs, government agencies, foundations, philanthropists, businesses, and policymakers — should aggressively reach out to and engage Asian American voters in these efforts.

This report is intended to help expand the Asian American audience that is involved in environmental action and policy. CLCV Ed Fund welcomes feedback about whether this information has been helpful in developing programs that broaden the audience that is taking action on environmental issues.
